If you are looking for a hike with lots of beautiful viewpoints, lots of nature and a bit of history, the Meuse valley is the place to be. Everyone knows the cliffs of Freyr with a view of the castle of the same name on the left bank of the Meuse, more to the south. Or the Sept Meuses near Godinne. But what about a view on both the Meuse, Dinant and its citadel, and the ruins of the castle of Crèvecoeur and all that during a picnic? In the Bouvignes nature reserve, you have that possibility.

And that is not enough. This day trip also takes you to the ruins of Poilvache Castle. After a tough climb, you can not only delve into history and admire the remains of this 800-year-old castle, but you will also be treated to a beautiful panorama with a view of the Meuse and the Île de Houx. The last part of the hike, along the Champalle rock face at Yvoir, is also worth a visit. The group of hikers that I had in tow, definitely agreed.
